About The Ringwood Society

The Ringwood Society was formed in 1962 to protect Ringwood’s unique character.

We believe that good quality design which reflects the nature of Ringwood can enhance the old historic buildings and provide a twenty-first century town of which we can all be proud.

We continue to provide expert opinion on planning applications that could impact the character and history of the town.

We also strive to share our knowledge and experience, helping others to gain a new appreciation and understanding of the very special buildings and hidden gems that exist.

How we work

We hold an Annual General Meeting in the spring, talks of broad interest, usually with a guest speaker, and a social event such as a town walk every year.

Members get free entry to all our talks and receive a regular newsletter.

We identify areas of the town that could be refurbished or restored and obtain funding and resources to make these happen.  For example, we are currently seeking funding and help to restore an overgrown area near the Railway Pub that was previously part of the coal yard for the railway. Members are invited to take an active part in any of our projects that spark their interest.

Our elected committee meets every month to monitor planning applications and to discuss local development issues.

We are determined to prevent Ringwood from becoming just another dormitory town.
